Mun Seungji is a furniture designer who tries to minimize waste production under the banner of what’s called ‘zero-waste design’. Feeling sorry for so much wasted material when making furniture, he turned a single piece of plywood into a total of four chairs that all look different without any parts being wasted, and titled them ‘Four Brothers’. He has experimented with the concept and finally applied it into space, which is being presented here under the name of the ‘Brothers Collection’, consisting of chairs, tables, and chandeliers. A mere plane figure turns into furniture with added functions, and when placed in the right place, the place changes into a space for people to come and communicate.
Visitors are welcome to sit on the chair on display and take a moment to relax and think about the environment, design, human beings, and space. Shouldn’t they all harmonize and help each other in the end?
Message from Artist
“I feel a strong sense of professional calling these days as both a designer and artist. I am agonized by the paradox inherent in my works, as the things I create often render something else useless and discarded. Therefore, I’m very careful to make things that will remain useful for as long as possible. One way to coexist I can do as a designer, I believe, is the ability to create only what is necessary with as much as it is needed.”
